These energy systems connect our body, mind, and soul. The first of our seven major chakras is the root. When your root chakra is balanced, you have vitality and self-confidence instead of arrogance and fear, and you feel peaceful, centered, and prepared for whatever life may offer. The first chakra in the chakra system is the root chakra, or Muladhara in Sanskrit. It develops between the ages of 1 and 7 and relates to our fundamental needs. Just like a tree cannot develop without a stable foundation, your root chakra must be in balance for you to flourish. If this chakra is blocked or out of balance, it is possible that your other chakras, from the solar plexus to the crown, are also affected.
The root chakra is positioned near the base of the spine, in the region of the tailbone. It is related to the color red and relates to the element Earth. Unsurprising, given that nourishing this chakra is all about workouts that make you feel secure and confident on your own two feet. As needed, practices such as barefoot wandering in nature, performing foundational yoga poses such as malasana (garland position) or mountain pose, and any of the following balancing exercises can help you balance your root chakra.
Root chakra blocked symptoms
When the energies of the Root Chakra are unbalanced, sluggish, or obstructed, the desire to progress, the “joie de vivre” or joy of life, and the sense of purpose and belonging in this world are compromised.
An imbalance in the life force energy of the Root Chakra can cause intense insecurity, restlessness, and fatigue. This imbalance can emerge as feelings of anxiety, despair, wrath, low self-esteem, resentment, and even suicide ideation. Without the grounding energy of a balanced Root Chakra, we lose our sense of belonging to the world and may lose interest in being a part of it. Pessimism, poor concentration, and a gloomy outlook are mental indicators of an unbalanced Root Chakra.
These emotions can be completely overwhelming, influencing every aspect of our existence. The necessity of a balanced Root Chakra is evident.
Achieving self-respect and a positive outlook through the free flow of Root Chakra energies is equivalent to going forward positively in our life.
It is believed that the Root Chakra ties us to the spiritual energy of our ancestors, as well as to their trials and triumphs. The “memories” of our ancestors are stored in our own Root Chakras, and when combined with our own experiences, it is likely that everyone will face an imbalance at some point in their lives.
The Root Chakra “records” the traumatic histories of war, hunger, natural disasters, etc. of those who came before us. These experiences are transmitted from generation to generation and generate unconscious behavioral habits… The energies of our past and present life reside in the Root Chakra.
These energies may lie dormant, but under the correct circumstances, they may manifest in the body in various mental, spiritual, physical, emotional, and/or psychological manifestations. All of the “seeds” in the Root Chakra will eventually manifest as mental, emotional, psychological, physical, or spiritual forms. An unbalanced or blocked Root Chakra can result in a variety of negative physical and psychological symptoms

Other bodily ailments include problems with the colon, bladder, prostate, legs, lower back, and feet. Using positive affirmations
Affirmations can help you remain optimistic and confirm that you are on the correct road. I am filled with humility is an excellent affirmation for the root chakra. I am sufficient as I am. Start your day by repeating this statement aloud or to yourself three times. Or, write it on a post-it note and place it where you will see it frequently to remind yourself of your strong foundation.
Uttanasana: Start by standing up straight with your feet together. Bend your knees slightly and stretch forward into a forward fold position. Placing one’s hands on the ground or behind one’s legs. Hold the stretch for a few breaths, then relax.
Malasana: Begin by separating your feet by the width of a yoga mat. Exhale as you squat and drive your knees back with your elbows. Bring your body forward slightly, stretch your back, and maintain your weight on your heels. Hold for at least five breaths.
Vrikshasana: Tree position is undoubtedly the most beneficial posture for establishing a strong base. Start by standing tall with your feet planted firmly on the ground. After grounding your energy via your upper and lower body, bend one leg and lay the foot of the bent leg flat against the inner thigh of the other leg. Place your arms in front of your chest in a praying position. Hold this position for several breaths, then switch sides and repeat the tree posture.
Nadi Shodhana: By breathing through the separate nasal passages, this pranayama helps to harmonize mind, body, and spirit. Begin by crossing your legs. Place one hand on the knee and fully exhale. Use your other hand to close your right nose, then inhale deeply through your left nostril. With your free fingers, close your left nostril and open your right. Exhale thoroughly. Inhale via the right nostril and exhale through the left. Repetition of this cycle 10 times.
Sitali Pranayama: This pranayama, also known as taco breath, is helpful for cooling the body amid summer heat, hot flushes, and other high-temperature circumstances. Close your eyes and take many inhalations. When ready, form a “O” with your mouth. Curl the tongue longitudinally and extend it slightly from the mouth. As though drinking from a straw, inhale through the mouth. Focus on the sensation of cooling and maintain the exercise for two to three minutes.
Meditation transmits grounding energy throughout the entire body. It promotes spiritual awakening by establishing a connection to one’s higher self and a higher power. Whether this is mother nature, god, or enlightened consciousness, connecting to a higher spiritual dimension of universal energy brings stability and calm. It is beneficial not only for the root chakra, but for all chakras.
Start by selecting a focal point, such as your breath. Relax your body and begin taking deep breaths into the abdomen as you sit still in a comfortable position. Focus your concentration on your designated objective. If you’ve chosen to concentrate on your breathing, for instance, pay close attention to the external and interior sensations you experience with each inhale and exhale.
